Songs of Solomon 2:15 says,
“Catch the foxes for us, the little foxes that spoil the vineyards, for our vineyards are in blossom” (ESV).
“Catch us the foxes, the little foxes that spoil the vines, for our vines have tender grapes.” (NKJV)
I was at a conference in Italy some time ago when Pastor Gani Obasan of Christ Apostolic Church WOSEM – from Austria was teaching on a topic titled “Foxes in the field.” Using the text above, he taught that foxes are destructive animals that, if not caught, will destroy one’s field (that is, one’s life).
He depicted foxes as wild animals that belong to the family of dogs. They are flesh-eating, crafty, and deceitful animals; dangerous, always hungry, and never satisfied. Further, foxes are dirty animals carrying foul odors. I pray that God will catch all the foxes that have been destroying the field of your life in Jesus’ name.
If we say foxes are animals that destroy the grapes in the field, the bible says we must catch them (get rid of them) so our grapes (produce/productivity) will not be destroyed.
The field is our world, and the grapes (vines) represent our heart, mind, body, spirit, and soul.
The foxes in the world today show up as government and organizational policies and laws that the enemy has put in place to kick against God’s rules. These policies are ruining purity, morality, and decency. We need God to give us victory over them, lest they destroy our souls.
Foxes in the Church: The church is a field full of foxes. These foxes show up in the form of false prophets, false pastors, false teachers, etc. Other foxes present themselves in the form of innovations, vogue, etc., in the church. The world has already entered the church, so we can no longer differentiate worldliness from godliness. God must help each of us catch the foxes before they destroy us. Many ministries are under the pretense that they are representing Christ, whereas Satan is their master. With all this, many destinies have been destroyed by foxes. The Bible says, “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life is not of the Father but the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever.” (1 John 2:15-17 KJB)
Foxes in persons: A person’s life is also a field where foxes can show up in manners of ungodly conduct, potentially destroying the person. Gal. 5:19-20 says, “Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, …” Generally speaking, sins are foxes that each person needs to get rid of to avoid separation from God – which leads to destruction.
The way out is for the foxes to be caught, but note that there are foxes that God will catch for you and others that you need to catch by yourself. If you are not faithful, catch yourself and start to be faithful. Romans 12:1-2 says, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” NKJV
Further, the Bible says, “and give no opportunity to the devil. Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” (Eph 4:27-29 ESV).
With God’s help, these are some foxes that you must catch and destroy from your own life. God be with you.
